WGIPOA Meeting 4/20/19

MINUTES:  The minutes of the March 16, 2019, meeting is on our meeting minutes page.

MEETING:  The next meeting will be Saturday, April 20, at the Courtyard by Marriott, 9550 Seawall Blvd, starting at 8:30 AM with breakfast burritos and the meeting starting at 9:00 AM.  Please note the location for the meeting is at the Courtyard by Marriott!

We are in our 20th year as an organization and we thank our members and corporate sponsors for all their support over the years.

PROGRAM:  The West Galveston Island Property Owners Association is pleased to have Galveston County Tax Assessor Collector Cheryl E. Johnson. For the 15th year, Cheryl  is out and about the community teaching her award winning class “Effectively Protest Your Appraised Value.”  The WGIPOA is pleased to host a “short” version of the program at this meeting.  In addition, Cheryl will bring us up to speed on the status of hot property topics at the Capitol.

For newcomers to the community, Cheryl’s class is normally a two hour program (including Q&A) in which she provides techniques—not tricks—to help you gain an understanding of the Texas property tax process.  Class materials are provided and are also posted online at the Tax Office website (www.galcotax.com under Press Releases and Important Information).  Galveston ISD was reappraised this year and although less than 33% of property owners receiving a notice of increase actually protest, more than 90% of those that do experience some level of success.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a real difference on the bottom line of your 2019 tax bill!

Below is the class schedule Cheryl has set up throughout the County:

April 25th              Effectively Protest Your Property Value class, United Way Training Facility, 2800 Texas Avenue, Texas City (9 am)
