Meeting 5/30/20

Attention:  Members and Friends of the West Galveston Island Property Owners Association

As I mentioned in my recent email, for the safety of our members and friends, due to the COVID-19 coronavirus situation, the West Galveston Island Property Owners Association monthly meetings had been suspended.  However, modern technology now allows virtual meetings  and an s/b video conferencing platform called “Webex” will allow us to have a meeting.  Therefore, the meeting we had scheduled for this Saturday, May 30, will proceed with an update of the “Ike Dike”.  For the west end, this is a must see and hear about the project and you will be blown away with the surge protection system that is planned in Bolivar Roads (between the Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island).

We are pleased to have for the presentation Sharon Tirpak, Deputy Chief Project Management Branch of he U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Galveston District, and Tony Williams, Director of Planning Coastal Resources, of the Texas General Land Office.  The purpose of the Coastal Texas Study is to identify coastal storm risk management and ecosystem restoration measures that would protect the health and safety of Texas coastal communities, reduce the risk of storm damage to coastal industries and businesses critical to the Nation’s economy, and address critical coastal ecosystems in need of restoration. The Study Team is comprised of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Texas General Land Office (GLO) and their engineering, environmental, and public outreach consultants. To learn more about the Coastal Texas Study, visit www.coastalstudy.texas.gov.

We invite you to be a meeting participant so you can see and hear the speakers. Other meeting participants are not visible to anyone, but any user can raise a hand to become a speaker or be invited to the podium by moderator. Meeting participants may use audio replies and group chat or take polls in address book to provide their feedback at any time.

We will use a “Webex” account, and the information to join is below.  We usually start our meetings at 9:00 AM but since some people may not be familiar with “Webex” system, so we plan to start at 8:45 AM to make certain everyone is on line to officially start the meeting at 9:00 AM.
